Universities target overseas student growth, May 2011

Further to the changes in tuition fees and the teaching grant from 2012, with a cap on the growth of UK student numbers remaining in place, a number of English universities are targeting growth from overseas students as a source of income and growth.  Total overseas student numbers doubled to 10% of university income between the 1990,s and 2008/9, and according to The Telegraph, universities have already set clear targets to increase foreign student numbers to 16% by 2015. Durham has been cited as planning to nearly double its number of overseas students, and Exeter is planning a 73% increase across some of its colleges.
